Is it ever too late to get into computer science?

Im thinking about majoring in computer science, im still a high schooler, but im pretty proficient at Java, familiar with HTML and CSS, and learning python. Is it too late for me to decide to pursue a career in computer science? Ive heard that the competition is quite fierce, which I didnt expect.

No. You’re in high school. Plenty of people take their first CS class. In fact, you are at a pretty good level of programming already.

Random fact: for Stanford’s class of 2011, the CS major with the highest CS GPA did not do ANY programming before college (at least that’s what the department commencement speaker said).

Entry level courses start at the basics, like how recursion and iteration works. You should have no problems. In fact, you’re probably ahead of some incoming freshmen.
