Is it fair - Harvard Finaid policy toward upper middle class family

i agree with frizle. i think aid should be given to more students…with the aid “ceiling” being higher than it is now!

So, OP, what you are saying is that because I do not come from a wealthy family, I do not deserve to go to a top school. Because without nearly full aid I would not be able to attend one.

Despite my valedictorian status, perfect ACT score, NMSF standing, countless journalism awards, multiple jobs, being editor-in-chief of my yearbook for two years (and of my literary magazine for three), running cross country and track–all without having parents who ever attended college. All without being pushed to achieve.

Guess I’m just a “slacker.”

OP: Yes, Harvard is like that hypothetical Mercedes dealership, and it has been doing pretty good business longer than any car dealership anywhere. In fact they have long waiting lists of customers who want to buy their cars for full price. Right now there are lots of potential customers who are waiting by their phones hoping that they get a call from the dealer that their car is in stock.

If you have a problem with their pricing structure you are free to go to the used car lot down the street.

^^ i salute you and shake you warmly by the hand

Stop saying Harvard is a private institution, so they can do whatever they want. They can’t. The government could easily step in and regulate if they wanted to.

Harvard is also given tax-exempt status as a nonprofit organization by the government.

But, their tuition hikes as of late have suggested anything but “nonprofit,” Especially considering that Harvard could easily, EASILY run charging $0 in tuition for every single undergraduate.

Finally, since I am a child of a full-pay family, I can agree that it is somewhat unfair, as it will be a stretch for us to pay full tuition. We are not rich, as most people in this thread seem to believe full-pay families are.

put this thread to sleep people!!! it’s useless to argue about this when the original poster was just messing with everyone.
