I am full 100% indian (the asian kind), I know it is a stereotype for us to be geeky in school and get high grades, but is being an Indian a favorable or unfavorable thing when applying for college? Especially technology oriented colleges?

Um...I think it depends what sorta programs you apply to. I mean...I don't think they really care too much if you're going into engineering or maybe liberal arts or humanities....but boy, if you try to go into pre-med/medical related stuff like most Indians...you might have a hard time competing with the other 203245945 Indians trying to get in. Then again...it depends on the college itself too...some have different "policies"...or they tend to. This is all based on experience and observation, so don't take it to be entirely accurate.

Im planning on applying to RPI with Chemical engineering in mind, and then after a few years of experience working as a chemist or chem engineer, going to get a grad degree in managment and chem.

i am not an indian but I wanted to tell u that since u are already an Indian , u cannot change it and if you really want to go to some sort of school, what the heck? apply!! Being indian might work for you or mightnot, just give it a shot!
