Hi.

I want to ask, if I am taking classes in a community college (Irvine Valley College). But I want to take class in another community college (Santa Monica College), does it affects me about transferring to university (probabily Cal State)?

Thank you.

my state school system, in order to boost enrollment at ccs, guarantees that classes taken any state cc will transfer to all of their universities.

I know it's a different school system, but is that what you meant by your question?

So it means as long as both are community college of the same state, the classes that I have taken are count the same?

no, not count as the same. For instance, English 102 at my cc is English 101 at the uni. Eng 101 at the cc will still count for credits at the uni. But it won't count as the university's Eng 101. Clear as mud? Basically, although they have the same title and you will get credit for eng 101 regardless, the two classes might not carry the same weight.

Hm, my uni provides a class converter on their website to see which classes are comparable. Does yours have one?

hide hide, to tell you the truth it really doesn't matter when it comes to the cal states mainly because as long as you get the csu transfer requirements done, whether one class was at one school and another was at another school, as long as it says csu/uc transferable it will transfer to a cal state and it won't matter if comes from different colleges.

that's why sometimes when they request transcripts they tell you to submit transcripts from all schools you've attended, because they want to see your record and classes that you've taken, and because many other students take classes from community college to community college.

another thing is that, if you plan on sticking to one community college what you can do is just transfer your credits to community college to community college just so that you can have them evaluate what classes count for what.

Thanks, I understand every thing now. :)

ceecee which state are you from?
