I would like to send three to the schools that asked for two and two to the schools that asked for one because I know three teachers from my college extremely well, is this okay?

If they all have different aspects of your persona to share with the colleges, then it would be great. Otherwise, (in the case they all mention the same information) it wouldn’t affect your application.

I think Brown mentions in its online application guide that an extra letter or two does not harm the applicant, but that scores upon scores of letters almost always come across negatively.

So if, for instance, your extra rec comes from a pastor who has seen you struggle through very difficult times, it will obviously add another facet to your personality. If it was just another generic letter from a school counselor, on the other hand…

My counselor always says that do what you are not told to will cause you trouble.
If they recommend two, then send two letters to them, that’s enough.
Even you know 3 teachers well, ask one that has a relationship with your major, or the one you have known the longest will help more!

^I have a different philosophy. If one keeps searching for trouble every time he/she surpasses the ordinary, he/she will never excel in anything. IMO, sending extra letters of recommendation is nice if it, in fact, adds something substancial.
