Hello everyone! I'm going to be a rising senior this year and I was wondering if colleges like JHU, UCLA, Brown, etc. want a lot of ECs or less with more dedication. I mean, I have a lot of ECs and I'm dedicated to almost all of them. Is there a problem with that? Every response is greatly appreciated! No hateful comments please! :)

It’s good to have a lot of ECs yeah. From what I hear keep clubs to a minimum since they want you to look dedicated but they also want you to excel in those clubs.
If you have the dedication for clubs, how much time do you put in them all? Do you do well in each?
How long have you been doing what’s outside of school? They like to see duration and passion. Not something that you just started a year ago.
I hope this is helpful Though I’m a rising senior as well, but this is what I’ve gathered from my paranoia and fear of college apps and then spending hours watching videos and reading about it xD

There’s no problem with being dedicated to all your ECs. No one really knows what a college wants in a given year, but IMO you’re in great shape as long as you’ve shown dedication and commitment to your ECs, whether they are one or many. I mean, obviously if you have one EC you should show extraordinary dedication, since you should have spent a lot of time on that, but if you have many, then whatever is reasonable for the amount of time you have for each. But don’t spread yourself too thin!

Thank you! In almost all of my clubs, I have received awards from robotics, basketball, science Olympiad, etc. I also have around 7-8 leadership positions! I was thinking of opening two big clubs this year. One of them is Habitat for Humanity and Junior State of America. I’m into politics and community service, which are reasons why I want to open these two big clubs! Should I open them or not?

Is it a good move?
