Is it hard to do well on the ACT?

Is it that hard to do well on the ACT? I thought a 34 was a really good score, but some students at my school are saying a 34 isn't even that impressive because lots of people (at our school) have apparently getting 34's without having to study a lot and some of them not even being considered that smart. The people said it isn't that hard to get a 34. Is that true? Most of those people only studied for a week, and this was after they took the SAT.

Honestly, it varies from person to person…I say take a practice test and see how you do personally…
And I don’t know what people in your school are saying…a 34’s a very good score!

A 34 is excellent. Wherever you go to school, they need to lay off.

i know an idiot stoner who barely ever works who got a 35.

i know a really smart girl who spent weeks and weeks studying who got a 32.

neither is an easy score to get. and it just depends, i guess.

a 34 is an excellent score. don’t be disappointed at all

A 34 is a very good score. I’m waiting for my scores right now and I can only hope that I did that well. ^^

Statistically, a 34 is absolutely amazing. In the 2007-2008 testing season, only 6,358 scored a 34. This is out of the 1,421,941 who took the test. Look up the ACT 2008 statistics. It’s all available to the public. At the top of this forum page actually, stickied post. Overall, only 9658 students scored a 34 or higher, again, this is out of 1,421,941 students. There are approximately 35000 high schools, public and private in the United States alone. So, there should be about 6 34’s per school based on these numbers alone. (Disregarding school size and school performance, just to give you an idea.)
So, it would be a near impossible statistical anomaly that such a large portion of the 6,358 students who scored a 34 is located at your school.
Personally, my favorite is the 1 person who scored a composite 3 out of the 1,421,941 students. That superb young scholar has bragging rights to the lowest ACT score of the 2008 season.
Final answer:
Yes, this test is extremely difficult to score a 34 or higher on.

TI 89s arent allowed?

no, they give you too much help in equation solving and such

not fair!..im starting to think ACT math is harder to perfect than SAT math

Haha they have no idea that casios are SOO much better.

A 28 is even a good score.

Maybe I’m reading it wrong but according to those stats shouldn’t there be 6 schools per each 34 instead of the reverse of that like you said?

Yes, you found the mistake, haha. Yes, you would be correct in that there are 6 schools per 34. However, this is disregarding school size and performance. (You would have to assume that all 35000 schools are of equal size and performance.) Just used purely as a statistical example. I hate making simple mistakes…
