Is it hard to find a job in engineering?

Apparently, some of my relatives had a hard time finding a job in the engineering field so I am currently being discouraged from considering a major in engineering.
I also heard that engineers are currently being outsourced by foreign workers.

Is it really hard to find a job with a major in (mechanical) engineering?

I graduated in mechanical engineering in the heart of the recession (2009) with only a decent GPA (3.3) and had two job offers lined up before graduating. Given, I am only one person, but I didn’t have that hard of a time finding work. Ended up choosing graduate school anyway though.

You’re doing something wrong if you can’t find a job with a Mechanical Engineering degree.

Getting offers isn’t that hard for software engineering. Passing the interviews can be challenging though.
