If gpa is like 3.0 from freshman year and has shown improvement but the act score is a 34 would colleges dislike this?
What is your GPA now? What is it excluding freshman year?
It was a 2.7 junior year and sophomore but this year i got a few Bs first semester and this semester I think I will have mostly As Mby 1 b so it is a 3.0 now but hopefully will be. Little above that after this semester
I think a lower gpa is not going to hurt that much because it might just show that your high school is harder in academics. And of course the improvement is going to help you a lot. Just make sure to write amazing essay with outstanding story. Good Luck!!
Thanks you!
You definitely need to also apply to other safer schools.
A 3.0 GPA will exclude you from most top 50/top 75 universities. Low GPA and high ACT says bright student who blew off high school.
My sophomore year GPA was 4.0 and my junior year my Gpa is 3.0 with the class highest being 3.3 because there is a lot of grade deflation which teachers say are doing so to help us prepare for our senior ear(i dont understand how) so will such a low GPA harm my chances at a top 50 university?
@saumyagoyal, please start another thread for your questions, you are hijacking this conversation!
Agree with Tom. Low GPA is a killer, trust me, I had a 33 on my ACT and around 3.0 with extenuating circumstances and I couldn’t get into a top 75. I had great rec and decent extracurriculars
What colleges where you able to get into?
@TheLastofUs9 what colleges were you able to get into?
@collegeperspn intra small unknown safety school in NJ lol but this year I got up my GPA to a 3.91, and as a freshman I already got into Tulane and BU with scholarship!
Gpa matters most. I got a 3.0 gpa throughout high school, 2.0 senior year and 2200 SAT. Got into Fordham that’s it but thats because I come from an extremely competitive high school. I would suggest transferring. I decided to go to a city college instead of Fordham and I transferred into BU for the next school year.
Go to community college and get a 4.0. With a 4.0 & your ACT you are in top 30 territory easily. Don’t rush and settle, show you can learn from your mistakes in HS and shoot higher! BU will be a fair/safety for you if you can maintain a 4.0 in college.
it is much, much harder getting in from high school to top universities vs. transferring
