Is it HARD to get the Perkins Loans at UFC?

I’ll be starting at UCF in the summer and my current financial aid award package won’t cover all my expenses. I applied for the PLUS loans but was denied because of my parent’s bad credit. I applied for some scholarships but don’t know if I will get any, haven’t heard anything back.

I wasn’t offered any perkins, I contacted the financial aid office and was told to submit a separate form requesting a perkins loan.

Is it hard to get it?
I know it’s need-based, I come from a low-income family.

You may be too late for Perkins Loans. However,

Dependent undergraduate students become eligible to borrow additional unsubsidized Stafford loan funds when their parents have been denied a PLUS loan …
The additional loan limits including $4,000 per year during the first two years and $5,000 per year during the remaining years, with an additional cumulative borrowing limit of $23,000.

It will all depend if the school has any remaining Perkins funds that have not been allocated for other students.

Like @4kidsdad said, you are eligible for an additional unsubsidized Stafford Loan of $4000. The college should have added that to your FA package.

Perkins loan is better, though, because interest is subsidized until after leaving school.
