Hello,

I have a quick question. I was wondering how difficult it is to get into The Ohio State University-Columbus as a transfer student. I am currently attending Kent State University and I am looking to transfer to Columbus next fall when they are on semesters.

I am a freshman now, but when I transfer I would be considered a sophomore due to the college credit that I already have from BGSU, The University of Findlay, and here at Kent State. I called down to campus in Columbus the other day and they said that although it isn’t too competitive to get in, they do look at GPA and he said that as long as I have a 3.00 and above GPA I should be good. Is that true for most people? I mean, I had a 3.80 GPA in high high school and I have no clue what my GPA is here yet. Is it hard to get a 3.00 in college? My major is Broadcast Journalism.

Any response, stories, comments/opinions would be greatly appreciated. ALSO, do credits usually transfer pretty easily to Ohio State, or would I stand to lose some credit? Basically, is Ohio State a transfer credit friendly school?

It’s not currently a transfer-friendly school because of the quarter system - meaning that you usually get some hours credit for what you’ve taken elsewhere, but those courses often don’t transfer easily to actual OSU course requirements.

However, with the change to semesters, that is likely to change. So you are probably going to be in much better shape than previous transfers.

No guarantees, but the whole point of basically forcing all schools in Ohio to be on semesters was to easily facilitate transfer credit and also allow it to apply to core sets of courses.

Thank you for your response. I do realize that OSU, along with other universities on quarters in OH, are transitioning to semesters next year. And yes, I do realize that transferring will be easier because of it. I do plan on transferring next year and not mid-year this year.

Just transferred in. Its very random. I got in with a 3.5GPA, friend got in with a 2.9GPA, but another friend didn’t with a 3.4GPA. So… take what you want from it. Me and my other friend who got in did do the essay though.

I think I’m in the minority because im still not to sure how I got in but I transferred in with a 2.3 through two years at a community college so anything is possible.
