Is it harder to get into an MBA or undergrad?

Hey guys,

I just wondered if it is harder to be accepted at an ivy league MBA or undergraduated programm and which GPA you should have in average for both of them?

I’m guessing that MBA admission likely bases on a lot more factors than undergraduate admission. For example, your work experiences would be an important factor to consider in MBA admission.

Difficulty is subjective. Unless you are going by objective statistics purely (admission rate)- but doing that would not be accurate- as there are many factors which make comparing the admission rates for MBA vs undergrad not possible.

^^^yes… Different pools, self-selection of professional school applicants make a comparison w/ UG difficult if not impossible.

Generally speaking the top MBA programs accept applicants who have demonstrated excellence as an undergrad and in a job where leadership skills and/or analytical capability are clearly evident. If you look at the composition of the top MBA programs, most performed at or near the top of their undergrad programs with the majority having attended elite universities (Ivies, Stanford, MIT, Duke, SAW), and having worked in funneling jobs in investment banking, private equity, strategic consulting, etc. The catch-22 is that to get the jobs that provide the best funnel to the best business schools requires that you perform at the top of your class at an elite undergraduate institution. There are exceptions to the rule, but the path is less reliable.

In summary, both are extremely competitive and require demonstrated excellence in the most challenging courses available at the prior level, and, in the case of an MBA application, also requires demonstrated workplace leadership and/or analytical excellence.
