I really want to transfer out of Cornell CAS into a school like uPenn CAS or Brown. However, I read that transferring from one ivy to another is very difficult. Is this true?

You’d need a great reason, terrific grades and recommendations, and lots of luck. You also might have financial consequences if you’re getting any aid.

Does that mean it is harder?

The Ivy league is a sports conference, there’s no innate difficulty in transferring from one of the conference schools to another. The reason for transferring is very important and since you’re already attending a strong academic college, they will be looking for other reasons you want to transfer. On the other hand, going to a rigorous academic college will be a positive if you get high grades.

And since it appears that you are an entering fr, I will add that adcoms are aware that many students, particularly soph transfers, are interested in transferring ‘up’ rather than having a real reason that their current school isn’t working for them.

Thank you entomom for the insight. My main reason for wanting to transfer is because I am very unhappy socially here and I have also realized that Cornell may not be the best school for premed. I am a premed student and there is no local hospital for me to volunteer or work at; also, I have heard many upperclassmen complain about there being a problem with graduates placing into good med schools, let alone get into one at all.
