if you want to apply to transfer at top-25 schools as junior, is it bad to not be from community college? it seems that what i've found here is that top schools, especially ivies, prefer students from CC or who are older and have non-traditional backgrounds. what if you're just a normal 19-year-old applicant who excels at your current school and excelled in high school?

Can you post a couple links of that? I am just curious because I am a 23 y.o. graduate of CC who has been out of college for almost 3 years. I have decent stats and intelligence, but I somehow always thought that I would be at disadvantage when applying to top schools because of my age and CC education.

I always thought it would be the other way around. Yet it seems like CC applicants with decent grades have the same chance as university applicants. However, I think the main reason for this is the articulation agreements that most CC’s have with the universities that guarantee CC students admission if they hit certain grades.

Amazing. I love to see people succeed !!! But only through hard work and merit (it seems that thats what this guy did)
Thanks for sharing.

Hopefully we both put our stories in such way.

Sky is the limit, sky is the limit ;)

That is awesome.

Anyways, I’ll add my two cents. It doesn’t matter if your from a community college or a four year institution, if you are a great overall student with top notch academic qualifications then you will receive consideration from any of the top universities.

Nothing is guaranteed, but if you can pull off a 4.0 GPA (or something close to it) like the person from GrandK’s post did, than your chances will be significantly better.

I go to a tier four four-year university and I am working on transferring and being able to boast a similar success story of my own in the near future.

haha
Yes! 2 is a pair, 3 is a club !!!

P.S. Hey guys, in my last semester of CC I took 32 credits just so I can graduate faster and go work. Because of that my GPA was compromised a bit (I went from being very close to 4.0 to 3.5). Do you think thats a sufficient explanation for why I have a 3.5 instead of 4.0 ?

32 credits, i really lot of hours! I think it can explain, not everyone will accept that challenge.

its actually quite doable !!!
however your life does become very time sensitive :D

It would be a disadvantage, if anything, but there are no hard rules regarding this.

^ “It would be a disadvantage” elaborate?

I think it’ll be a disadvantage just because it will look like you put a heavy workload on your plate without thinking about it. It is also harder to bring up your GPA when you have more credits. 32 credits is insane; a years work in one semester. You will probably need to bring that up to a 3.7-3.9 to get into a top 25 school.

Can’t say I’m not impressed by the idea of taking that many classes though. My school allows a maximum of 20.

Ohh, I see. I thought you meant that being a CC student puts you at disadvantage. If you note, that (taking 32 credits in semester) wasnt the primary question in consideration, but thank you for your input anyways. It is what it is. I did, and I am proud of it. In fact, when I DO get to a top 5 school, I will make sure to accomplish the same feat there. Just watch ;)

All the power to you man.

So you’re going to Yale, Stanford, or MIT? Wow, good for you xD

Haha, jk xD But yeah, I’ve always wondered if CC students have an advantage after seeing many of the posts here.
