Is it hard to get a scholarship?Even if I do get one,how much of my school fees will it pay for?
p.s.what good scholarships are there?

Most top tier schools only give out need based scholarship, so it really depends on what is your family’s EFC (estimated family contribution). It is financial aid. Only handful of schools give FA to internationals.

It’s very hard to get accepted to an ivy.

If you do get accepted and the schools determine that you have “financial need” by looking at all your parents’ income and assets, then those schools will give you money to attend.

Few schools give aid to int’ls.

Hard is an understatement. The money is not a problem, if you get accepted and have need, they will provide the money. The hard part is just getting in, and unfortunately it’s very, very hard to do that. Nine out of ten of the world’s top students are rejected. And in reality chances are below one in ten as a huge portion of those accepted are athletes and the offspring of grads and the rich and famous.

Thanks for the advice…By the way,are there any asians here?

Do you mean at Harvard and Yale? You can read about the demographics of every university on their websites.

The Ivies do no give out scholarships (that term typically means money based on academic achievement). They give need based aid only.

The hard part is getting accepted. Almost 90% of students who apply to these schools do NOT get accepted.

Financial aid is based on your PARENT’S income and assets.

*By the way,are there any asians here? *

LOL…I think some might be asking…are there any non-Asians there.

But…as Thumper said, very few get accepted. And, if you’re an int’l, it’s even harder to get accepted.

FWIW, Harvard’s financial aid is the same for internationals as students from the U.S…

The difficulty is not getting financial aid to Harvard or Yale. It’s getting accepted by Harvard and Yale. These two schools offer full fin aid to internationals. Practically unheard of. Therefore, they get thousands of applicants from all over the world – competing for those few slots.

Basically if you get in, you’re all set. They have so much money to give. The hardest part is getting in.

Not really. You are only going to get financial aid at the Ivies IF you have financial need based on their calculations. If your parents’ income and assets are high, you won’t get need based financial aid there.

The OP mentions scholarships but doesn’t mention her family’s financial situation. The Ivies do have generous need based aid for accepted students with financial need.

If your family makes $180,000 a year and has typical assets for that income, you’ll likely get about $30-35,000 a year in aid from Harvard (leaving your cost at around 10% of annual income).
