I'm Asian, and my GPA is around 3.7. I'm in ~top 20% of my graduating class. I barely have any ECs:

Math Club (grade 11)
Internship with professor (grade 10 - 11)
Volunteering at hospital (grade 10)

I'm a junior right now. Is it too late to turn things around and put me in the running for admission into MIT?

What’s your SAT?

Despite all that, even with a 4.0 and 2400 you’d have low chances for MIT (especially since you’re Asian) as they do put importance on your extracurriculars, especially a passion for math and science. Math club is good but on the other hand, you just joined it in grade 11. Elaborate on the internship with your professor.

Another way to look at your situation: Perhaps you can make a goal to go to MIT for grad school. Actually, a lot of people say that Grad school is what really counts. I don’t know if you were planning on it or not, but it’s an option. Also, you could make it a goal to get a lot of money to a school for undergrad, keep your debt low, do very well in undergrad, and then go to MIT for grad school. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you man.

I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but I would have to get it extremely high.

And thank you for your kind words, StudiousJ.

Good luck! I think MIT would be a high reach for you, but if you do well in a different undergraduate school, you could still do great at MIT grad school. If I don’t get into my top choices, I plan on doing my undergrad elsewhere and then transferring for grad school. Good luck!
