Is it pretty impossible to get a UC school if you are from out of state? I looked at the percentages, and in most of their schools, only 3-7% of the students are from out of state. Does anyone know any good universities that are around the same prestige as ucla in California? (besides USC, im already applying there)

Are you interested in prestige alone or do you have a specific field/major in mind?

well, I want to go into Aeronautical engineering, but prestige is also important. so basically as long as the school has either prestige or a good engineering program

I’m glad you have a major in mind.
Is your college search limited to CA and especially LA area?

Here is a website that might be useful in your search:
http://www.tryengineering.org/home.php

Search for aerospace engineering in CA:

http://www.tryengineering.org/university.php?country=United+States&state=CA&city=&program=Aerospace+Engineering&studentbody=&setting=&tuition=&tuitionscope=both&x=26&y=13

thanks a lot, very helpful. I really want to go to school in California, and more specifically the LA area. Do you happen to know if it is really hard to get into ucla for an out of stater? I know the percentages are low, but Im hoping they dont mean that theres no chance

Is it hard for out of staters to get into any of the UC schools?

It is difficult and UCLA admissions are known to be quirky. If you are an outstanding student, work hard on your application and give it a shot. It’s a great school.

I thought that UCSD and UCSB are both easier, and had good engineering.

Get into UC-Riverside then apply for transfer to UCLA. It is easiest to transfer once you’re in the system; it’s all the same school, in fact when you graduate you’ll have an overall UC GPA, UCR GPA, and UCLA GPA.

Charlie’s World you are a genius! But are there any other schools in the UC system that are easy to get into, but maybe a little higher ranked than ucriverside?

Off the top-of-my head I’d guess Cal the toughest, then UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCSC, UCR, and UC Merced. I don’t know how UC admissions works these days, but one use to apply to a top UC and if it was filled, the application went to the next choice. (I think back then one could choose three.) Check out how it works now. But w/ your final goal UCLA, make sure you get in the system, take courses where you get top grades, then transfer. (Really doesn’t matter which one you start at as long as you graduate from UCLA.)

ya thats true, ill look it up
