from that deferred/accept/reject topic, like 60% of people got in. as opposed to like 20% on harvard board.

is stanford like the easiest to get into out of HYPSM?

is stanford like the easiest to get into out of HYPSM?

Admission rates according to Collegeboard:

Harvard: 11%
Yale: 10%
Princeton: 13%
Stanford: 13%
MIT: 16%

So no, Stanford is not easier to get into. They're just really big, and the sort of people on CC go there, I guess.

true. but i've noticed that people with the same credentials or lower get into stanford while rejected @ harvard

Depends on how you define "credentials." If by that you mean SAT scores, yes, Harvard acceptees generally have SAT scores a bit higher than Stanford (like 20-30 points). However, Stanford might place higher emphasis on ECs, recs, or essays.

Anyways, I don't see that much difference between 11% and 13%.

from what i've seen stanford puts more weight into the essays and not as much on the sats. the reason you're probably seeing 60% of the people being accepted might be that the accepted stanford people tend to stay around while the other people aren't exactly rushing to post their rejection or deferral.

I'd heard that California schools usually put more emphasis on scores and grades. Is this not true in Stanford's case then?

In general, that's true for UC schools, and not true for Stanford.

the amount of people who are accepted/rejected is just kind of arbitrary. there are plenty of rejected people who don't bother to post afterwards, while if they are accepted they might be more likely. maybe more people who were rejected by harvard stuck around or felt like posting their stats. hehe, i was a stanford acceptee/harvard reject, though i don't remember if i posted my stats or not. oh i just reread and looks like i said what bobobabob said, sorry! i think stanford can be a little bit quirkier in their acceptances than some of the other top schools, so its difficult to predict, but i don't know if that's whether they weigh essays more heavily or if they look for different things. but test scores can only get you so far at any of these schools. harvard has more than its share of people with outstanding test scores, and i think after a certain point they just don't matter. so much is the luck of the draw. harvard does accept less students than stanford, but they are both highly selective, and solely having high test scores doesn't guarantee an acceptance...there really aren't many other generalizations you can make about it...
