does anyone know how difficult placement exams are if u have taken them??? Is the level of difficulty equivalent to AP tests??

are there short answer questions on the placement tests as well? or multiple choice?

also..
for engineering, I would get credit for Statistics AP (5) and Spanish Language (5), right? Then I would I more room for electives/other classes..

It is hard to say how "hard" it is to pass them, since they are curved. Basically, you need to get what is considered to be a "passing grade" on a test similar to a final to pass. Generally, if you can get a 5, you can probably pass it, but it depends on how much you study during summer.

Yes that is so - I think.

ugh...placement exams sound disgusting, and ESPECIALLY if they're curved! It sounds harder than the APs since at least with APs, it's curved in relation to lower, medium, and higher intelligence people in the nation. But if it's curved against only Penn students.....yuck.

but anyway, do you know when the placements would be? After frosh orientation?

for chem engineering...does anyone know if getting a 5 on eng lit&comp, bio, and macroecon will do anything for me? thanks

The placements aren't curved against each other. They are evaluted compared to the scores of the actual classes, which are curved. So you need about a C to pass the test.

-that would be even worse then, wouldnt it? after all, the ppl who took the actual classes would have learned all the material already.

oh, and do you get credits for BOTH AP lit and AP lang?

Placement tests sound hard... I'm def not studying over the summer, so I'll probably bomb them hardcore ;D

Score. I got it confirmed from an advisor that if ur not in the college (i.e. SEAS, nursing, or wharton) then the AP credits can go towards fufilling the sector requirements. So those APs are worthwhile in this way after all for a good portion of us.

what about transfer credits for the college?

I e-mailed one of the chemistry professors about the placement tests--they're the final for the regular class, which means they will be pretty hard. But, if you can pass it, then you get credit for the class, otherwise, it doesn't matter. It's worth a try, I suppose, but, personally, I'm going to stick to taking the university's basic classes so that I can establish a good core understanding for upper-level classes.

Placement tests are held the first week of school. Search it up on the UPenn site. You have to register online for some.

*****Here's a word of advice for everyone--If you don't know the answer, find someone's e-mail on the UPenn site who could possibly know and e-mail them! It helps lots!

so AP tests do matter, in engineering at least - to place into higher classes, i guess

ahh bio and physics B tomorrow.. i dont think either of them really matter though, right?

Not for me. So I'm not studying. ;D

are you in engineering? (so both of them dont count for you?) lol i'm deciding whether or not to study, because I know absolutely NOTHING about physics

No, I'm in CAS and although I have (or had...) a chance to score a 5 with some studying in Bio, I don't care for the Bio 091 credit. And my physics class was total BS because it was the teacher's first year and he has no idea how to teach for AP, so I plan to get 3-4 on mechanics section and 1 on the e&m section (again, no studying). So basically because a 1 and a 4 are the same thing, and a 5 isn't really "worth" it for me, laziness prevails.

Only reason I'm bothering to show up is for credit in the classes, so I don't have to take a final in the class. :o

does anyone know if bio & physics B count for engineering though? lol i really dont want to study, but i'll feel guilty if they are worth anything

according to the Penn website, for BIO, you can just take Penn's placement exams to get credit for BIOL 101/102 or BIOL 121.

And Penn uses the same book as my high school = (hopefully) uber easiness :)

nonskaterhater, did the advisor say that for the upcoming years too? or just this year?, cuz I know the major changes are happening for next year's frosh
