Ok, parents, now that the kids are busy doing their homework, we have to come up with some kind of problem to solve or new research project so we don't seem like pathetic losers waiting for the kids to do something interesting to amuse us! ;)

I guess I've been lurking in the Parent Cafe to pass the time. Don't particiapte too much as it (strangely enough) is not as friendly as this area.

In the mean time I'll just be waiting for the next crop of kids to start finding us...

Yep......there will be a new group of future preps and it will start all over. lol

We need our own Parent Cafe over here! Latte anyone?

As for me, I am definitely suffering from symptoms of withdrawal from my child. :(

I'm slowly going up the the learning curve on college admissions. That's my research project for now. It's rather overwhelming!

The Parent Cafe is for numbskulls. The Cafe for the students is far more civil and entertaining.

Maybe it's more "my level," but I much prefer to detour to the College Confidential Cafe than the Parent Cafe.

I agree wholeheartedly with the Parent Cafe comments. If you say the wrong thing, they pounce! MEOW!

That's why I only lurk!

How true. I have been intimidated in the parent's cafe but have gleaned some valuable info. Prepparent - with your senior daughter, I bet you're looking at colleges this year1

Yeah these forums have really quieted down. You know what would be cool. If we got like a yearbook. Like with the screen name and mabey a picture and what school attended, so we could remember everybody. I know it will never happen but it kind of sounds like a fun idea.

I used to see lots of new posts and threads here. lol. I'm just starting to see threads again by other prospective applicants. Are there THAT much homework? Even if you go to the top school here, it's pretty mellow. I'm so jealous of their hectic schedules. :(

I'm not so sure the reason kids are not on these forums is that there is an astronomical amount of homework, its just that kids would rather spend their free time being and bonding with their friends, who happen to live right down the hall.

You're right hockeykid....my son was never much of an internet user, but he had started to develop more of an addictio....er interest....over the summer. I was concerned as his sister is generally GLUED to her laptop repeatedly checking her "social networking" sites. Since my son has started bs, he is never on his laptop. He doesn't even check his mail anymore (not even to answer an e-mail from good old mom). He hasn't touched AIM or MySpace (which is firewalled anyway). When I ask him why....he is too busy with, not just classes, but with his friends. When he is finished his hw, he heads out to the soccer or football field, or to the weight room, or to the student center for pool and ping pong.

This board has the greatest kids. I've really enjoyed learning through them. I hope they stick around to continue giving us such great info. And it will be nice to meet new ones.

Also, I'd love to know what would get the people who only lurk on this site to jump in and join.

Oh, and the older sister's addiction is being cured as well. She is a freshman in college, and an athlete, so in addition to practicing 4 hours 5 afternoons a week for her sport, she is required to run 4 mornings a week and lift twice a week. That plus her classes, and the requisite socializing, is keeping her nicely busy!

There is a saying for Division 1 college athletes that goes like... Grades, Sport, Social Life, pick any two.

hockeykid: Oh yeah, the benefits of boarding school. I spend half my time on the phone or chatting with my friends. Do I seem like the typical teenager? :)

"Also, I'd love to know what would get the people who only lurk on this site to jump in and join."

The pleasure of having your questions answered by people who have/are experiencing what you want to experience and getting both sides of the story-the good and the bad. At least that's what made me join.

And getting back to the students being absent, I would imagine some of them who took more difficult academic loads are probably buried.

Talked to Goaliegirl last night. I guess taking 6 honors classes = 3 hours of homework per night. Add in leaving campus every Saturday night after sports to go play hockey on Sundays (returning Sunday for study hours) and she is buried. No time for online life at all!

goaliedad,
Does your daughter leave to play club hockey on Sunday's? We are trying to think of ways to work my son's club soccer into bs.

Pull up a chair and hoist a cup of your favorite brew. Earl Grey for me this a.m.

Regarding homework, my NOW college soph D regularly spent 3-4 hours per day on homework while at BS and plenty of weekend time.

College homework is a breeze for her and she had no adjustment period her freshman year. She said it was so much easier than bs! She watched several new college friends spiralling downward as the first semester drew to a close. She was like a mini-parent with her observations of who was drinking, socializing, or loafing too much, and her predictions of who would lose their scholarships.
