is it just me with this problem??

I had applied EA to Tulane. After a long long wait, my counselor informed me over the phone that I had been admitted and was offered the 22,000 merit scholarship. however, to be mailed the official decision later, i will have to provide the certification of ability to pay the remainin amount. i am an international student, and there's no way my family can afford the remainin 32K. i had also applied for the need based award and other scholarship. i have emailed them continuously, but have not received any reply. how can i find out the decision on these awards. I would also like to know the average need based awards that internationals get.

It’s probably too early for any decision on need based awards, but the admissions counselor should understand that and know that you’re counting on additional need based aid. The site below talks about loans and scholarships for international students. The need based scholarships can go up to $18K annually.

You should call them during their office hours if your emails are getting no response.

The Office of Financial Aid is open during the following times: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Financial Aid counselors are available: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 12:00 noon, 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Good luck!

Ironic - Be aware those times are Central Time in the USA, one hour earlier than New York City, for example. So 9:00 for Tulane is 10:00 for New York, 7:00 for Los Angeles or San Francisco, just to give you some reference points.

thanks a lot for the info. But I come from Nepal, and the time zone difference is practically 11 hours, so that during the office hours it is night time in Nepal. So, it gets really inconvenient to place an international call during office hours. This wait is really frustrating me, i wish the counselor would reply to my mails.

Well, according to your post you talked to them once by phone, so it is possible. In any case, where did you send your e-mail? Show us the exact e-mail address you used, and maybe we can offer some advice on getting an answer.

thank you so much for your help. i did talk with my counselor, he said that multiple awards are not possible. however, when i checked the tulane website, they said that it was just the DHS which was awarded alone. CSS and need based awards could be combined with the merit awards. could you verify this information for me.

Yes, I think you had a misunderstanding. The Community Service Scholarship can definitely be added to a merit scholarship, up to where it equals tuition. From the Tulane website:
