Or does it seem like the acceptance rate will be 50% this year?

Skewed pool. You're viewing CC kids who, for the most part, are at the middle or top of most of these admission pools, UChi included.

I got in, and (no self-deprecation) I really don't feel as if I'm at the top or middle of the pool.

even though a lot of chicago student feel like they didn't work that hard in high school, most are confident that they are among the brighest in the world, you included (i have seen your previous posts). also, keep in mind that most people who are rejected won't bother posting their shame online...would you? I know I wouldn't.

Point is, jpps1, you got in. ;)

It was perhaps too much of a generalization to say that the CC kids are at the middle/top of the pool, but I do believe that it's generally true: you are here because you care enough about college to do research about it and how best to maximize your chances.

That puts you nearer the top, especially at a school like UChi which really does use "interest in the school" as criteria for admission.

(j10cpc5000, it unfortunately doesn't work that way when you post on the college boards before the decisions arrive. Case in point, I was rejected by Yale and posted it because I was part of the community and felt it my duty to share it. I do agree that people won't log on to CC for the first time just to post that they were rejected.)

I would've posted here had I been rejected.

yeah, does anyone know what the UC acceptance rate was this year??
Most places have had way more applicants this year. Maybe UC hasn't had that same trend.

I hope it does have a lower acceptance rate...I'm not a total prestige whore, but I wouldn't like to see a rate of 50% or a US News ranking of 20 or something.

If it's any help by comparison, elpresidente, the Class of '09 EA application pool was not significantly different in size from last year's (http://maroon.uchicago.edu/news/articles/2005/01/14/admissions_expects_s.php).

If the RD pool was the same (which it should be -- there was nothing I can recall that would cause an unexpected spike in applications) and the skew in the expected number of enrollees wasn't great (which is iffy -- more students applying to college, more students applying to many colleges for 'back ups'), then the admissions numbers should be similar to last year's.

But that's a lot of if.

I think as much as I may have gotten in for my school grades (I don't think my SAT helped much cus it was just 1350/700/650/650, nothing special), I think the reason I got in was cus of my art slides and my 3 Chicago essays.
