Both my friend and I are applying to Cornell, and when it comes to stats, she beats me by a mile. I really like Cornell though and I've always wanted to go there. I know that if I don't try, I won't have a chance at all...but how likely is it that an Ivy accepts multiple students from the same High School?

The number of kids going to Ivies really depends on the school. About six people from my school got into Cornell last year. If one of you gets rejected, it’ll be because of reasons other than the fact that you both go to the same high school.

Ahh thank you very much :]

I know we had 3 people get into stanford from my school last year, and thats a lot harder to get into than cornell. I personally know two people who got into cornell, and i dont know that many people from class of 2010, so im pretty sure we had a lot more than 2.

Ivies frequently accept multiple students from the same school. The fact that your friends’ stats “beat you by a mile” might hurt you in the sense that the Cornell admissions officer might view you as achieving below the standard of current applicants; on the other hand, your friends’ stats might attract the admissions officer to your school and give you a chance for a second look. It is impossible to know conclusively, and that is a good thing.

Depends on the school. Last year out Calif HS had 4 students accepted RD to Cornell after one was accepted ED. If your friend’s numbers beat you that much, apply ED.

Ahh…thanks. When I meant ‘by a mile’ I meant her ACT was a 35, while mine was a 33. She’s gotten all 5’s on her AP tests while mine were all 4’s :[ Oh and her rank is 2/520, while mine is 6/520. But I think my EC’s are a bit nicer, but I could be wrong. We’ll be asking the SAME teacher for reccomendations too, haha. Her essays are amazing…but I’m not too far behind!
I guess the major difference is that she’s Caucasian and I’m Asian >< I’d apply ED but I’m not sure if my family is financially ready to accept this ‘binding decision’

I don’t think I can outcompete her, which is why I’m asking…Hmm maybe EA?

Last year my school sent about 40 students to Cornell, of about 1000 students

Most certainly yes depending on the individual applicants from that school and the school’s academic reputation.

Though my information is from the early 90’s, I recalled about 116 of my urban public magnet high school graduating class of about 690 were accepted to Cornell A&S and Engineering. From 5-90 of our graduating class were also accepted to other Ivies.
