I am too waiting for Smeal (Accounting). I just want to hear as well! I am so anxious because this is my number 1 choice and I’m not sure if I will get in or not.

Yeah same thing here…applied Smeal (EBF)

it really seems like they havent been accepting a good amount of people. im glad im not the only one but ive been waiting for over 2 months!

Are you less likely to get admitted to Upark If you put down a competitive major such as Business???

I applied September 10th, and I got accepted November 15th, so they take a bit.

I was a 4.07, 30 act

I want to major in business, but when I called Penn State, they told me to list business as the Area of Interest on the application, and then “Business (undecided)” as the Major. I don’t believe I applied directly to Smeal, but it appears a number of you did. Was I incorrect in doing it the way I did? Thanks very much.

tyler 15 thats the only and correct way to do it

Eromano333, thanks very much. When I saw those who said they applied to Smeal, it got me a bit nervous. Thanks for the clarification and have a nice holiday.

Bww-it all depends on your numbers

it looks like i am very lucky…
I am an international student, applied in Nov and got accepted in Dec. I want to major in finance by the way. Does anyone know whether it is possible for an international student to find a job in usa?

Yeah. PSU offers jobs on campus to students. That’s what I would do if I were you, but it should be fairly simple to get a minimum wage job in the surrounding area.

It is a little more complicated for international students to work; the University Office of Global Programs should be able to provide guidance. Here is some information from their website–

Limit on-campus employment to a total of 20 hours per week while school is in session. Since regulations prohibit students from working more than 20 hours per week, 3/4-time assistantships are not allowed. In addition, the benefit of working on campus requires F-1 and J-1 students to be in status (i.e. full-time registration, valid I-20 or DS-2019 and passport). At Penn State, the I-9 form (Employment Eligibility) is processed by International Student Advising (ISA), 410 Boucke Building, for all international students.

Getting off-campus employment would probably be more difficult.

After 1moremom’s post I looked on the PSU website again and found this posted when I “asked the lion”:

International students can only work on campus. International students can work up to 20 hours a week during the semester and up to 40 hours a week during the summer. Contact International Student Services if you have questions.

I would e-mail International Student Services if you want a good answer. The following was also on the PSU website:

Prospective Students
Most international students come to Penn State on F-1 or J-1 student visas. To apply for these, they need eligibility documents (I-20s for F-1 visas or DS-2019s for J-1 visas) from Penn State. Our Pre-Arrival Coordinators, within The Directorate of International Student Advising (DISA), issue the “initial entry” I-20 or DS-2019 documents for most students. In addition, they also provide information and services to international students who will study at Penn State in other visa / immigration categories. We provide information related to many of the pre-arrival steps required prior to arriving on campus, and respond to questions for all new or prospective international students.

If you are considering Penn State for your academic career, explore the options in the left hand column to locate information regarding admissions, financial guarantee requirements, obtaining an I-20/DS-2019 and much more.
