I actually planned on taking Honors Chemistry next semester. Unfortunately, Honors Chem I is not going to be available at my school next semester :/ so I can only take Regular Chem I....:( Should I wait till Fall 2011 so that I can take Honors Chem I?

Not enough gain in waiting if it throws you off-track. Take the regular and do well.

take the regular. honors doesnt mean anything for med schools. took an honors gov class, and got my only A- so far. Honestly, the only thing i’ve gotten out of being in the honors college is early registration, using their comp lab, and free printing.

^early registration is a huge plus (according to my D.), do not underestimate it.

Take Honors classes because you want to learn more (get a more analytical treatment of the subject), not because you want it to look good for med school.

Are Honors classes usually easier to get better grades in or are they about on par with regular classes?

ive taken 2 honor classes. one was harder, and one was easier. it really depends on the prof

Honors classes are usually alot smaller. 40 in Org Chem vs. 200 in the regular class for my D. Get to know the prof better, and easier to ask questions.

^Do the smaller classes affect grades in any way?

It probably varies based on class, but I’d bet the Honors kids learn more of the breadth and depth of the material. I’d expect with the usual suspects in these classes the overall grades are about the same as if they took the regular classes, but a lot more fun.

dunc made a good point. For some students, the honors class is a major reason for them to go to the state university. Of course, you may have to skip some if the schedule does not work out.
