Is it necessary to do a "chance me" thread?

How am I looking here? :)

I think you have a great chance of getting in! Financial aid has no bearing on being admitted, so don’t worry about that! I’m a sophomore and was admitted with similar stats my year, and even similar extracurriculars (yay NHS an TSA!!!). My advice would be to just keep up the great work and you’ll get in! You seem really determined, which is great. And don’t worry about seeing the school- what you see online is what you get! I didn’t see it until May, after I had already accepted, but I knew it was right for me already! Good luck to you!!

Thank you so much! It’s good to get some positive feedback :)

No problem! People seem to be really hard on themselves sometimes! If i had posted my stats a few years ago, so many people would have shot me down… sometimes you just need some positive reinforcement!

I’ve been shot down a lot haha. How do you like CWRU?

I absolutely love it! I remember being really sad at not getting into the two schools I had visited and loved (UVA and Georgetown) but looking back, I never would have been happy at either school, i think I just loved the idea of them! Case is incredible, don’t let the naysayers (and there are plently of them who like to ‘spread the word’) tell you otherwise!

Georgetown was one of the schools I was looking at too, along with Vanderbilt and Carnegie Mellon. I recently discovered Case and I just thought, “Where have you been my entire college search?!” Haha it seems like a really great school

I applied to Georgetown, UVA, Penn, Boston College, Michigan, Clemson, Northeastern, Drexel, Loyola Chicago, along with Case and several others. I was really shocked at how much I loved Case, it’s kinda like an out-of-state dream! I’m from the east coast and no one knows of it here, except people in the medical field mostly, but they’re always really impressed!

Thats great! How were you able to pay for everything? I just did a net price calculation and my dad said it wasn’t quite affordable, but I think I will get better aid by the time application process comes since my dad is newly unemployed (it’s been 4 months now)

Honestly, it’s hard. I come from a single-income household (my dad owns a small family business, just him and my grandfather) and my mom’s a stay at home mom. I’m the 2nd of 3 kids to go to college, and my dad won’t let me or any of my sisters take out loans (at least for their undergraduate degree-- my sister isn’t going to grad school but i will have to eventually!). I have $11,000 (hopefully, haven’t gotten my statement yet) in a grant from Case and no financial aid (still crossing my fingers for some) from Case, which still leaves me with about $40,000 a year to pay plus travel (I have to fly and take a train to get home). I have a lot of money saved up from years of working at a daycamp and babysitting, which is paying for my first two years. After this year, my dad’ll use money from the home equity line he took out on our house to help pay for my sister’s college (it’s kind of like a morgage, but you take what you need and put it back when you can). As far as I know, thats my plan. It’s definitely different for everyone, I mean the only financial aid I was offered last year were federal loans and my parents said no way, because of all the interest, it was much cheaper to take money out on the house (which of course you’d only do if you know you won’t loose it in collateral damage!)

Federal aid isn’t determined by Case, but it definitely sounds like you’ll get some, and hopefully some kind of merit scholarship too! Good luck :)
