<p>They offer single rooms, but it's extremely unlikely you will get one (as a freshman). The only way I see you getting one is if you have some sort of special condition that needs to be tended to....</p>

<p>Another option is living in a nearby apartment off-campus. I know this is possible, as my friend is a Freshman at U of M this year and lives in an apartment. These are much cheaper than you'd think, too (my friend's worked out cheaper than if she had paid for living in the residence halls)... check out the listings and see for yourself: </p>
<p>The down side to this is that very few scholarships (if any) can go toward off-campus housing, and you miss out on the "dorm life" experience... which could be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view.</p>
