Do you guys think it's necessary to take many AP tests that are ultimately unrelated to your major? This is a question for my friend, by the way. He's VERY sure that he's going to be a math major in college, and there's a possibility that he might be aiming for the more prestigious ones (that is, the top math schools) that don't necessarily accept AP credit anyway. Do you think he should take them anyway for the schools that DO accept AP credits? Should he just take enough to pass out of maybe the core requirements at these schools? By the way, he's home schooled, so there's a possibility that he should take AP tests as a measure of his progress (but there are other ways to show that -- namely, SAT I/IIs).

So if he does decide to take multiple AP tests, do you think he should take many just for the number? Note that he's already quite busy (and not in optimal physical or mental health), so taking these tests may be unnecessary stress for him if it ultimately turns out that they're not worth much.
