Is it normal to do poorly in the first quarter?

How can I recover from poor grades after my first quarter? Any tips would be extremely helpful. God bless.

My gpa will probably be above a 3.5, but that’s because I have to language classes (which are easy for me). But yea its totally normal because you’re getting used to the new learning environment/styles. If you work hard, get a tutor, go to office hours, etc you could raise your gpa up for next semester

Your school might have academic forgiveness if it’s really bad.

Otherwise, just be more on top of things next semester and maybe take a lighter load. (Or throw in an easy, but interesting elective that will be a GPA booster for you).

I’ve heard a lot of people don’t do so well their first semester of college.

I had a 2.8 GPA my first semester. Two semesters later, I’m standing at a 3.8. Once you get used to the structure and balance of your courses, it’ll get much easier. Recovery isn’t impossible.

Choose your courses and professors wisely- Ask around, do a little online research, choose the ones that appeal mostly to you (ratemyprof is fairly popular).

Can you explain mathematically how you were able to make that jump from a 2.8 to a 3.8?

@ boston: he probably got 4.0s in all his classes for those two semesters.
