Is it ok for my reccomendation letters to be from two of the same subject teachers?

I am a junior in highschool and preparing who to ask for reccomendation letters. I plan to major in pre-law and get a bachelors degree during my first 4 years of college. Is it ok if 2 of my reccomendation letters come from English teachers? I’m close with both of them one is from my sophomore year and one I have currently. Also I will be asking a Spanish teacher that I’ve had two years in a row. The one from sophomore year I will more then likely have them again senior year. Thanks in advance!

Also I would like to get a bachelors degree in English.

I would pick a different subject teacher…they usually recommend two teachers because they want different view points but also it shows your range.

Agree with the above. I would not use two teachers in the same subject as colleges look to see a broad range of achievement. Typically colleges want no more than two teacher recommendations so at this moment I’d go with your Spanish teacher and your current English teacher.

I’d wait until the end of this year before asking for LORs. Teachers are still busy with the current senior class and you should wait and see how the year goes before asking.

First, I do recommend picking teachers from different subjects for recommendation to reveal different aspect of you. Second, it would be better, and sometime required, to choose teachers from junior/senior year. Third, for some schools, they even want teachers from the 4 (or 5) core subjects. Finally, you should sort the teachers that agreed to write LoR for you as some schools would only take one LoR.

My son is now in his 4th (and AP) year of a foreign language and asked his teacher to write on of his LoR. Is that a problem since foreign language isn’t really one of the core subjects? Other rec is from English teacher.

@contdes Foreign language is considered a core subject. There are five core subjects: Math, English, Science, History, and Foreign language.

@contdes It depends on the school that ask for teachers of 4 cores or 5 cores. Some schools do not include foreign language as a core. Unlike the other cores that requires 3-4 years in high school, most schools only require 2 years FL.
