My school is extremely competitive, and I need to take 2-3 APs over the summer to remain competitive. I know the issue is that if I take an AP over the summer, it is likely I will forget all the information and bomb the AP test in May. However, I know that my high school GPA still goes up even if I don't get the college credits. If I take, say AP Music Theory, is it worth it to just take the class and not take the test for the GPA?

And I’m saying this because I WANT to be top 5-10, so please don’t say that GPA doesn’t matter as long as I have ECs!

Sure, I think it’s okay. You’re still getting some of the benefits of taking an AP class and you’re doing so without the stress of the AP test. As long as you’re taking other AP classes and their tests, I don’t think colleges will mind if you opt out of one of them.

If you forget what you learn by may then you aren’t learning … besides they make prep books you could use to refresh your memory and practice tests…lol

^Exactly what Weeknd said.

You seem like you want to take them for the sake of your GPA anyway, so how will our arguments sway you otherwise?

Well your hellbent on taking some pointless AP class for some silly ranking, so you might as well go for it.

My question is, why waste your time asking here (more importantly others time who respond to this thread)?

It depends on your school policy. If you don’t take an AP exam at my school, you will fail the course and lose any AP credit from your GPA.

If that is not the case for you then knock your self out.
