is it ok to list honors that haven't happened?

My son has completed the work needed to graduate with an honors degree, but that isnt awarded until June. Same situation for graduating Magna.

Do you think it is ok to list these as academic honors on an app? How would he word it ?

^^ List the honor with a qualifier, such as: Magna Cum Laude (anticipated, June 2014).

I guess I don’t see the point of listing them. The admissions people will see his GPA, and that would show that he would be graduating Magna and the honors designation doesn’t really add anything to the value of the GPA. I would see it as being pretentious and unnecessary, but that’s just my opinion, so if it is important for you to list them, do as gibby suggested.

Never assume admissions people (or anyone) will see two in one location on an application, and two in another location on the application, and add them up to be four. Make it obvious by calling it out - and saying it’s anticipated is just fine in this case. (There are cases where you should not anticipate (even if you are Peter Higgs), you should wait for the award, but this is not one of them.)
