Is it ok to not visit before applying?

Hey there,

I’m a rising senior, and have been doing a bunch of college tours in the Northeast over this past year. However, I’m thinking of applying to a couple that aren’t in the Northeast area, like Vanderbilt and UVA, and likely won’t have the chance to visit before applications are due.

However, I have been doing a bunch of online research on the schools, and have gone to a couple of the local info sessions that admissions reps from these schools put on. If I am so lucky to get into either of them, I plan to probably visit before the May deadline.

Just want to hear some thoughts: is it common to apply to one or two schools you haven’t visited? Thanks so much!

It isn’t uncommon. You can get jammed up in April schedule and cost-wise if you leave too many visits, though. And you may want to revisit for accepted student days at some other schools before deciding.

Yes! Many people do not visit before applying.
If a college tracks demonstrated interest and you cannot visit, then be sure to demonstrate interest in another way- college fair, alumni interview, emailed questions, etc.

Just be sure you have a good response to the “why us” essay. Sounds like you have already done your homework though and the local info sessions will be helpful too.
