Is it ok to send essays to essay consultants?

I sent a copy of my essay to an essay consultant who held a free workshop at my high school so it could be edited. After the consultant sent me back an email with comments about my writing, I was offered a "final editing" for a fee. I thanked the consultant, and said I would consider getting the "final editing" I also requested that he keep my essay private--and not share it with anyone else. However, he has not responded to my request. Should I be worried that he will send out my essay everywhere and that I may lose it? (if someone copies it). I know to never share my essay with random people online, but is it also dangerous to send it to a person who edits essays as a profession? He has held workshops for at least a year or two at my high school, so should I be concerned at all?

I wouldn’t be. If he’s been coming to your hs for a few years, you at least know he hasn’t been blatantly screwing kids over.

My teachers always told me you should never pay anyone to help you with your college essay.

Yea I heard that too–I only attended a free workshop.

It all depends.

Are they writing it for you, or just pointing out where it needs work?

Teachers who are helping me out at the moment aren’t changing the content of my essay; rather, pointing out areas that needs improvement.

If you pay someone to help you out with the essay, of course it will come out great. But will it be your own thoughts? Will it be personal? That is never guaranteed, and the colleges are looking for personal essays, not a paid one.

It’s funny how some people pay other consultants to sit for hours and hours thinking up of college essay topics.

You know, I recently came across a firm, IvyEyesEditing, perhaps you could try them. You can go to their forums and ask questions regarding your essays or any concerns you may have; they’ll be happy to answer, free of cost, and pretty quickly at that too. I was actually very satisfied with the response I received from them, so why not try them out.
