Hi, I'm currently hoping to transfer fall 2015 to UCSB, but i haven't started my pre-req courses for Calc 1 and 2. I was hoping to finish Calc 1 this fall, and finish Calc 2 this spring. Would taking Calc 2 in spring affect my chances of getting into UCSB? Also, I currently have a 3.5gpa and am hoping to TAG to UCSB, will taking calc 2 in spring stop me from tagging?

Ucsb is notorious for rejecting applicants because they have math in progress. Although, in some instances, people were okay because they had another transferable math done prior to spring. It also depends on your major, so it’s case by case, but to be safe, I suggest taking Calc 1 over the summer and Calc 2 for fall.

Oh, I just saw that you haven’t done pre-reqs for Calc 1. Were you planning to take precal over the summer? If so, could you take a placement test into Calc 1 instead of the precal class?

Yeah i was hoping to take precal over the summer :(! I’m a econ/accounting major, but i did take college algebra this winter which is UC transferable, would that help? It’s been a while for me, so i decided to start at the bottom at math to rebuild my foundation, but it seems it may cost me =(

I technically am IGETC certified, but i need my finish my calc 1 and calc 2 pre-req.

the UCSB rejecting people with math IP is for people who don’t have any math grades on their transcript. If you have a transferable math class on your transcript completed, don’t worry too much about it.

Oh really?! That’s a huge stress relief X___X;
