Is it okay to ask a former teacher to coffee?

I'm in my second year of community college (currently in the the process of applying to other colleges to transfer for fall of 2015). I took two semesters of Voice lessons last year with this one teacher. She's become something of a role model and mentor for me. Currently, I believe she is on leave due to a pregnancy, and I'm not taking Voice this semester, but I wanted to chat with her. Is it appropriate for me as her former student to see if she wanted to meet for coffee or something?

Sure, I mean you are both adults now. It isn’t awkward at all. Just shoot her an email and explain why you want to chat. I am sure she will say yes! It’s not uncommon whatsoever. good luck

Just as a second opinion, I agree with ^ :)

As part of your invitation, let her know a subject or topic you aim to touch upon. That would help.
