Is it okay to put one class during the summer before transfer?

I need to complete one more GE class to earn my Associate Degree, and I am planning on completing the class during the summer right before I transfer. Should I put that on TAU? or would that hinder my admission chance?

Do they have a summer section on TAU? I don’t think it is necessary if you have your 60 uc-transferable units and all your requirements are met. Although you certainly can and note you’re getting your AA. It will not affect your chances negatively.

You are welcome to take it, but beware that it will be held to the same standards as your Spring grades when the admissions contracts come out.

That means that if your contract states to earn a B average in all semesters, you HAVE to earn a B in your summer course. Anything below could make you loose your spot.

I think that’s s bit over-stating. I have yet to see anyone kicked out who got a C even in spring term once they were accepted. You will also most likely be sending the summer transcript to the UC after the UC has started. I mean, obviously don’t get a D.

Since the course is unecessary for UC you might even be able to take it P/NP even if you are over your 14 semester units allowed. You won’t get UC credit if it’s over 14, but if the CCC accepts it, that’s all you need care about.

I might add assuming the P/NP is allowable at the CCC.

I’m pretty sure it is per term…

OP double check so you don’t get screwed

This is a problem I have sometimes here. I don’t mean it in a bad way but there is so much hand-wringing sometimes, I think it gets OPs needlessly throttled.

OP is not going to get kicked out for getting one C in an inconsequential course during the summer. I can bet you $1000 on that. It will not happen, should he be accepted. I’m not saying he should not try his best, but come on. He won’t get kicked out for less than a B.

Now I do know of a situation where a kid got 2 or 3 C’s in spring. He was still accepted but had to take a summer course, and was sent a revised contract stating he had to have a 3.0 minimum for summer. That was the “revised” contract based on his previous Cs. Assuming OP does OK in spring, there should not be an issue.

If things were to really go south OP can withdraw. But there’s no point creating intense worry that a B- will ruin someone’s acceptance. It just won’t.
:ar!

I’m not meaning to worry the OP, but I want them to be aware that for some schools, the contract MAY require a 3.0 average per semester. Therefore, he/she/xe wants to be very careful that they don’t get caught in a sticky situation.

Would one C get them rescinded? Probably not, but I’d like to know of the possibility before I set any plans in stone.

haha alright. getting a B is not that hard, I can at least manage that :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, it could unduly freak someone out with that line. The UCs are not mean, and that is downright mean if a person SIRs, goes to student orientation, gets their classes, gets their dorm, gets their roommates, and then a couple weeks before school starts they get kicked out because they got a C in basket-weaving over the summer. In theory, somewhere it may be true, but it would freak me out if I had one class to take and heard below a B I would get rescinded. That’s all I’m saying.

Good stuff Jason. B-)

My TAG at UCI specifies that I must have a 3.4 GPA at time of TAG app and must maintain a 3.4 GPA for each semester after.

No, I don’t think they would rescind me for getting less than that over summer. But they COULD. I think it’s ok to point that out to OP.

Who of us hasn’t at one time or another fallen victim to a stipulation or rule we broke unawares?

I think most of these contracts are through spring (not sure). Anyway, I’m over it.

The UCI tag specifically asks you to list all of the classes you are taking. When updating your tag [this should have been done recently] you would have been asked to update your past fall semester grades and the classes you will be taking in the spring and summer. Instead of worrying about it, you should just update your TAG with this class. You will have to send in all your transcripts to the school if you are accepted, you cannot hide grades/classes from the school. Have you checked assist to see if the class transfers? If you aren’t worried about failing the class then you shouldn’t be worried about just updating your TAG with the class.
