Is it okay to send transcripts BEFORE applying? (Also question about fee waivers)

Is it okay to send transcripts BEFORE applying?
And is it okay to include a fee waiver form in it too?

Thank you! :)

Why would you want to? You can just talk to your guidance counselor and have them send your transcripts with your application. Make sure you talk to them well in advance, though. I know when I applied for college, a lot of my friends’ transcripts arrived at their schools late because my school couldn’t get their act together.

All of my applications are submitted online. :p

I thought it would be convenient to send both the transcript and the fee waiver in one envelope to each of my colleges.

Good dea?

If you are mailing, then yes because schools take weeks, if not months to process the items anyway. Earlier you send, the better.

Thats how my school did it. I submitted both my Transcript Request form and NACAC Fee Waver at the same time, so I’m assuming they did, too.

The only risk is that your transcript would get there before they have a file/record for you. I doubt they’d throw your transcript away, but I could see it being put it on the bottom of the stack, which unfortunately would be about the same as sending it many weeks later. All that really matters is that it gets there on time, which it certainly would, it might just cause some consternation while waiting for them to acknowledge receipt of your transcript.

leaftye: what you describe would be rather foolish office practices given that a wide array of material arrives at any given college’s admissions office.

If the school is run so poorly or employs office staff who are so incompetent, I suggest you not apply.

Don’t add to peoples’ worries. They are legion at this time.

Thank you everyone and you especially, T26E4. :)

My son had most of his transcripts sent last summer. By that time, the majority of the schools he ended up applying to had already received his SAT scores. So, all that was left were the applications/recommendations.

One note: Prior to submitting your application, I would HIGHLY suggest contacting the schools to make sure that they have received the transcript AND entered it into the computer database. With my son, 2 of the schools (including his top choice) had received the transcripts (he had 2 different ones) and they were date-stamped mid-July, but they had never been entered into the system. So - while he was sitting back thinking he was all done…the computer showed him “incomplete.”
