Is it okay to skip Math 1010 if a kid gets 4 or 5 in AP Calc AB?

^^as in the subject line…

Will it put the student in a disadvantage for Math 1020 (Calc 2) ?

This is a personal decision honestly. I know students that have skipped and done well as well as students that retook calculus I and did well.

It doesn’t disadvantage you really. Math at RPI is harder than the AP exams, but you can get used to the rigor in either class - it’ll just hit you a little harder in Calculus II.

Sorry this is intentionally vague, but they should probably be fine skipping into Calc II.

My son got a 4 on ap calculus ab. He skipped calc-1 at RPI and got a perfect A in calc-2. During parents orientation it was the Dean of Engineering’s strongest recommendation that everyone who got a 4 or better in ap-calc that they skip calc-1.
