Is it okay to submit two recs to schools that only require one?

I've been searching for information on this, but the admissions websites are basically useless...

Most schools that require only one req don't really focus on them in general. That being said, you should stick to the school's guidelines, IMHO.

If they wanted two, they would have stated so.

Generally, if a school asks for one they usually won't consider a second even if submitted but, unless they say so on their site, they won't penalize you for submitting a second. Most schools (particularly publics) do not require or consider any recommendations except that they may have a required "counselor's" recommendation form which is more of just a counselor verifying who you are, grades and courses being taken senior year rather than a true recommendation.

Thanks. Does anyone know how many recs NYU requires? The common app says 1, but I can't find confirmation on NYU's website.

Go here: NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > Applying for Admission > Freshman Applicants > General Requirements

They have a form for a counselor's rec and for a teacher rec and they want only one of each.

lol I accidentally asked 2 teachers to write recommendations for me. Are u sure I'm not penalized?
