I'm currently majoring in CE and minoring in CS. You may think it's a bit redundant, but the reason I'm doing it is because the CE curriculum at my university is very close to the EE curriculum which focuses heavily on hardware and very little on software. However, I want to be good at higher level programming as well as learn stuff like analysis of algorithms. Basically, I want to be proficient in both hardware and software aspects. Is this a bad idea and will the employers look at my resume negatively because of this?

Will you be able to major in CE and minor in CS and still graduate on time?

I don’t think that a CE major having a CS minor would ever be a negative to employers, but it also wouldn’t be very much of an advantage either. There are certain jobs where having good software skills would be very valuable, but it would probably be sufficient to take several additional CS classes without needing an actual CS minor.

Engineering majors typically require so many classes for graduation that it is difficult to add a minor and still graduate on time, unless you started out with a lot of AP credits or plan to take summer classes. I doubt it would be worth it to add a minor if it required taking an extra semester (or more) to graduate.
