Is it pointless to send Burnett Honors College Application now?

Hi everybody (:

I was accepted to UCF Fall during the month of October. I had planned to immediately send my BHC application for the priority deadline (jan 15), however, when I was accepted to FSU, I thought it wouldn't be worth it (since FSU is known to be on a higher caliber than UCF). Now though, I regret it. I've learned through research that the BHC is great and when I visited UCF, I loved it there. I also want to have more options financially and I'd love to end up at BHC instead of just UCF.

I have my application ready and will probably mail Wed or Thur of this upcoming week after I get my trancript.

Do you think I have a chance of being accepted?

1260/1910 SAT
3.83 UW
4.76 W
541 service hours
2 leadership positions (president/treasurer)
Wrote two great essays and sending 2 Letters Of Rec
SAT II: 730 (Span w/ List)
Rank: 7/400
5 APs/Lots of honor classes

Thank you! :)

Personally, I think you do have a chance. Your test scores are a little low but, in my opinion, it’s not a deal breaker. It’s still above average. Especially given your impressive gpa, class ranking, and ECs. 541 hours of community service hours definitely help. Plus, the fact that you’re so well-versed in spanish helps.

Also, I know how you feel. Except I’m even worse. I didn’t even bother applying to ucf until recently. I spent the fall focusing on out-of-state schools. I didn’t even want to give in-state a chance.

Thanks so much for your input Ashley, I really appreciate it. I know, I kept focusing on more prestigious colleges, but now all I can think of is how nice it would have been to get free tuition or free ride at a “good” college instead of zero money at a “great” one. Right now I’m desperately waiting on UF, which has an overall good vibe.

It’s the best Florida university and I’ve heard it’s got great financial aid. Looking at your stats for ucf again, I honestly think you have a great chance at Burnett.

Yeah, I was all “I need the best education” and I wanted to (still do) go to a small lac with small classes and awesome academics. Too bad their price tags are too high. X( Now I’m panicking over UCF, USF, and New College.

haha same here. My friend applied to USF super early and got lots of scholarships, but I always bumped it to the side. Now, it’s too late because their scholarship deadline is past  Yeah, I’ve liked UF for a long time, and it’s got both aspects going for it - good academics/well known and it’s quite inexpensive. But just the fact that it’s kinda my last option or I’ll have to take out loans, scares me. Have any of them accepted you?

I wish I could say yes, but no. X( My transcripts to UCF were only just mailed today. I wish I’d had the foresight or at least hadn’t been so idealistic, you know? Whenever my dad or any of my friends mentioned UCF or USF, I’d just shrugged it off and daydream of Kenyon or something. Life sucks.

Yeah I know, I kinda wish I could go back to 9th grade lol, I’d definitely do it way better. But things are the way they are, hopefully everything works out for both of us.

I would time travel, smack myself, and make me do my homework! X) At least you’ve got your high gpa. UCF will probably recalculate it to around a 4.2 (maybe higher!) anyways and I, personally, am impressed by that. I think you have less to worry about then I do, honestly.

Cross my fingers.

thank you  but you have your SAT which is way better than mine! Don’t worry, you already have at least a college under your belt to turn to, which is more than a lot can say.

It’s barely higher, I have half your community service, and the most Spanish I know is ‘No hablo espanol.’ That may or may not have been right! X) I doubt I’d be accepted to Burnett unless their applicant pool was awful this year. I’m even worrying about UCF, which I’d thought–wrongly, apparently–was easy to get into. At least you’ve already gotten accepted to the main college.
