Is it possible - 1.0 GPA and..

Haha, just kidding, I don't really have a 1.0 GPA, but it's pretty bad - I have a 85%ish, or a 3.2-3.4 ish. This GPA is unweighted. SATs are 1400/1600, 2100/2400.

I am applying to several schools, more specifically NYU Stern (EDII), Carnegie Mellon's Tepper, Emory and a few more like RPI, Penn State, Drexel, etc.

After my father unexpectedly died a few hours after healthy release from a hospital, my life changed forever. This was shortly before I entered high school. I was a straight A student in middle school and was pretty much number one or two in my "class." I excelled in math as my father was a PhD in that.

I love technology. I completed several internships in the high tech industry, specifically website hosting and development. I also held three jobs in the industry, all with good remarks.

I own, right now, a five figure application development company. We own two patents under the USPTO. Our application is industry changing and has seen excellent growth. I also, along with my business partner, cater to private clients.

My responsibilities include corporate tax payments, credit management, and fiscal/legal information for the business. I am the CEO and it is a registered incorporation with a solid profile.

Despite my low GPA, does this give me a chance, specifically for NYU Stern, CMU and Emory?

I think your business background will be an invaluable asset for you.

I would also recommend reading Cal Newport’s How to be a High School Superstar. One of his case studies are very similar to your situation. You might be able to get some tips .

Thanks. I’ll definitely take a look :)!

Feedback is always appreciated.

You might also want to apply to Babson and University of Michigan

I will take a look :)

That’s just not cool. I was quite curious to see what a person with a 1.0 was trying to do with their life.

I have a 1.0 GPA on a…9 point scale, I guess :P.

Bump^^^^^^

I think your test score is pretty solid. I think you will be able to pull it off:) one of my college option is NYU too. Hope to see you there!!

Hopefully so, thanks!

Could you please look at my post and give me some advices? I will appreciate it!!:D

Sure thing, I’ll take a look shortly.

i have a 3.1 and a 2000 and i might apply to NYU if i don’t get into my first choice. the NYU track coach called me today and told me my academics are fine and there’s a spot waiting for me at the school if i decide to go there…so I think you have a good shot.

Stern is a lot harder than some other NYU schools. What school did the coach mention?

Bump 10char

You’re not going to get into stern or tepper with those test scores, particularly with those grades.
Probably have a shot at the rest.

I did some research, the average GPA at NYU Stern is a ~3.65 UW and the middle 50 SAT is a 1400-1500. You’re saying that my five figure business EC means nothing? Sure, my GPA is low by .3ish, but that would be surprising. My test scores are average. Especially how I know there are students with lower GPAs at Stern and Tepper.

^yes.
Those below the 25% level for extracurriculars are 4th generation legacies, minorities, recruited athletes, …
Running a barely sustainable business does not put you into that category.

Who said barely sustainable? We opened in 2009, own two patents and profits in the mid five figure range without any debt or even launched products, just private clients.

Looking at already exponential growth this year of 2000% and a projected revenue of 5000% in 2012 with the launch of our industry changing products.

My income personally is 20K ish this year, and I own 55%. My partner who is my age owns the rest and is the programmer. I am CEO. Keep in mind that we put a lot of $$ back into the business before salaries.

Probably a liar. If your dad died a few hours ago then you wouldn’t be leaping on CB to tell us about your 3.2.
