Is it possible for Honors to dorm with Scholars?

Hello everyone, I just have a quick question.

My friend and I planned to dorm together next year at UMD. However, I am in University Honors (which is in Hagerstown) and she is in Scholars (which is in the Cambridge community). I know we are not forced to dorm within our program, but will I be able to dorm with her if we request it? Also, if housed together, will we be housed in the Scholars or Honors community?

Ok, first off, yes you definitely can request to be roommates even if you are not in the same program. The request has to be mutual and Resident Life will absolutely honor it.

As for which dorm you would be in, well that’s a little more complicated and I honestly don’t know. If you were in a program and she wasn’t, you would technically be pulling her into your room. However, you are both in programs connected to dorms, so it could go either way. You can call Resident Life and ask or maybe even put a note on your rooming request stating who wants to be the one pulled in where.

Yes, definitely, my D has a good friend who has been in Honors and for freshman and soph years he lived with his Scholars friend in the Cambridge Community. I am sure that both students must request each other in writing.
