Is it possible for me to raise my SAT score by 500 pts?

@aquamarine818 i did 4-5 hours a day for 3 months ----- i went hard hahaha
i alternated practice tests between Collegeboard official blue book, Kaplans(these were so easy but they good bruh), Princeton review(these were kinda tough), and Barrons(these were crazy hard lol)

For the essay, i never actually wrote practice essays – i took out my stopwatch and then timed for 3 minutes after looking at the essay prompt. In those 3 minutes I had to come up with 3 solid examples to agree with the statement. I always did 1 histortical 1 literary and then 1 current issue(something in the news) or personal event!

good luck bruh, some people will say that the SAT ‘doesnt really matter’ but those are usually the kids going to state schools or not really competitive schools- u gotta hit that threshold – like a 2000 at the minimum to have a nice application

** I have no idea wat the new SAT is like so… this was all for the old SAT stuff that is getting replaced or something like that ***

OP: Since you are a sophomore, you have the option of taking the New SAT, which is very different from the current version or the ACT. It looks like you are running into dead ends in studying for the current format of the SAT. Here’s a link to a practice PSAT of the type that will be administered to juniors in Fall 2015. The math is not “tricky” , and maybe closer to what you have done in school:

Look over it and see if it is any better. Also, do check out the ACT as well. With your current PSAT scores, self-studying may not be the best approach. Does your school or library offer any free or low cost tutoring for SAT?

@aquamarine818 I never actually had trouble with math but had trouble in reading section. I kept doing the practice weekly, and whem there was a fall break (7days) i did 2 practice sets a day, so 8 hours straight of stupid SAT without getting out of my chair haha

And never forget to time yourself. I remember always running out of time during reading section since im a slow reader. So i would run out of time, leaving 5 questions untouched. But when i constantly timed myself, i had 5-8minutes of left over time to check my answers and do nothing on the real test.

@thegrant Wow. And yeah, I know, I’m studying every day, at least math and CR. I really hope to hit at least 2000, or 1350/1600 on the redesigned test. @mathprof63 Thank you for the link! I will check out those tests. I am currently doing tutoring at the library, hopefully the sessions will help. I haven’t looked at the ACT material but I’m hoping it will fare better with me.

Yeah, the reading section isn’t my favorite either. I’ve taken two practice tests so far, my latest one was 100 points better than my SAT score. I time myself pretty well, I have never ran out of time. I think I should even be working slower and more diligently, because as I go over my answers, I see careless mistakes. @kimdy0

I just did a bunch of ACT practice problems and I feel SO much more comfortable with that test. I knew 99% of the math, and the reading section was a breeze. I think I will take an ACT practice test next weekend and see how I do! :slight_smile:

Yes, it is possibly! I raised mine about 450 points.
