I am about to fisnish my B.S in chemistry in May 2007. I have minor in Biochemistry. But the thing is my GPA sucks right now. I think by the time a finish my B.S. my G.P.A will be 2.5. WHich is very bad. :(

Is there any way i can get in to any kinda Pharmacy program after my B.S.?? I have heard that there is 6 years program which people can enter right after high school. But since i will have B.S. (even with bad G.P.A)..do i have any chance in any kinda pharmacy school/ programs such as 6 yr or 4 yr program???

i am thinking to retake some classes which should push my GPA to atleast 2.75. I was stupid in my first year of college and made Ds, Fs in easy classes and later got my act together and made A's in calculus, physics and Organic etc.

Anyway..will I have any chance with GPA 2.75??

It's going to be tough, but not impossible.

You're going to really have to put in a lot of effort; I doubt you'll get into any top-tier programs with those stats, but do you have anything else that distinguishes you from the rest?

I would recommend retaking some of the classes, like you mentioned. Also, maybe even taking more credit hours to help push you up even higher (picking up another minor) or something along those lines.

My Adviser says i should retake classes in which i made D's and F's. and those were easy classes. So it should not be hard to make A's in them.

And there is a rule in my Univeristy (university of alabama at Birmingham) that you cant repeat more than 4 classes. You can take new easy classes which has nothing to do with your major and make A's in them...but if you wanna repeat classes in which you made bad grade, and you wanna replace with better grades...you can only do that with with four classes. Thats why i can only replace 4 bad grades.

ANd there are some classes in which i made C's ..like Physical chemistry I and Physical chemistry II ...and there is no way i can do better in those classes..teacher was a jerk ..only 10 students out of 45 passed those classes.

money is an issue also ...its going to hard for me to take new classes. It costs too much. So i think even with the best i try..my GPA wont go above 2.75. :(

does it matter how many D's and F's you have? even after repeating those classes? I think i have three F's and Three D's .i can get rid of all F's and one D. and try to take some easy classes to get my GPA to atleast 2.75 or 2.80. But how bad F's hurt on transcription??? cause if somebody never made F and has GPA of 2.8..it looks better than having GPA of 2.8 had three Fs.

It would look better having a GPA of 2.8 and no F's, vs. one with a 2.8 gpa and 3 F's...but it all comes down to the individual.

What can you offer the college that someone else can't?

You could maybe go to a smaller school and get a Master's degree in "Biology/or Chemistry" and get your GPA higher, and then try to enter a Pharmacy program...

Most schools require a 3.0. However, the further away from undergrad you are, the less it matters. Is it really important to you to continue your schooling right now? A 2.8 GPA followed by a few years of quality work experience and an essay touting how you discovered a new focus and commitment to your field and academia since you graudated would look a heck of a lot better than a 2.8 GPA that juuuuust happened.

noo. if i take break, i am affriad i will never be able to go back to school. In 5 years i be 30 yrs old, may be married by then .. i think it will be very hard to get back to school. i will forget all my Organic, biochemistry by that time.

so u guys think i dont even have any hope for masters with 2.75 GPA? :(

I am pretty sure that one can go to Graduate School and earn a Masters degree if they only pulled a 2.75 as an Undergraduate student.

But

You are going to have to think in terms of 3rd tier and 4th tier schools.

For example, I live in Memphis, Tn. If I desired to go to the University of Memphis for a Graduate degree in English (or another subject), I would only need a 2.75 in order to get in.

Why would I need only a 2.75 to get in?

Because that is a 4th tier school.

So, UAB, you keep on striving and keep on trying your best. Alright? You just need to start thinking "humble" with regards to Graduate School. No shame in that. I know that this web site is supposedly all about the high achievers and all of that, but who cares? You have a good sense of maturity going on, UAB, and I think you have a good shot at working your way up to being a nice pharmacist somewhere one of these days as long as you just keep things humble.

I think you should stay in Alabama, because you will find some nice humble schools there. But, you could move over to where I live if you wanted to. The University of Tennessee Medical Campus over where I live in Memphis is not the most super hard place to apply to if you wanted to. Or you could go to the University of Memphis and work their system with the sciences and then swap over to one of the University of Tennessee Medical Campuses. That is one humble option for you right there and I am sure there are hundreds more, you just need to research and try really hard and just keep things humble.
