But seriously, the only thing I know is that you know nothing. Oh yeah, I also know a whole bunch of other stuff too.

But yeah, unlike some stuffy, pretensious people, I don’t think society should be structured as a meritocracy or simply reward people based on intelligence.

I think society should be structured for the maximum benefit of me, regardless of any merits I may or may not show. That’s biology 101 for you. Oh yeah and I don’t think I’m inherently better for being smarter; I’m just simply going to abuse my intelligence for my own purposes like everyone else uses their respective innate talents and genetics. Booyay!

Yes its possible you’re not as smart as you think you are. Teachers are supposed to tell you that you’re smart and that your grades don’t reflect that. It’s not like they’ll say YOU ARE ONE DUMB **** to your face now will they? :p

I think a lot of the answers to this post have been good so far. ,I’ll try my best not to repeat.

You are going to learn pretty much everything you need to know on the job once you leave school. Very little of what you learned will actually be used, however, it isn’t about what information you are learning. It is how you learn, and your ability to follow directions and deliver results. Why have tests? A test is a challenge. A test is known about in advance, and teachers tell you what is on the test. So you prepare, and you walk in the class and show what you can do. If you are good at this, preparing for deadlines and delivering results, it shows you are a good worker and are focused and driven enough to deliver when the time comes.

You may not be the most talented in the class, but talent and intelligence only matters when it is applied. If two people achieve the same results, then what is the difference? If one is more intelligent and talented, then how much is intelligence and talent really worth if it doesn’t make them better off?

I have around a 3.8-3.9GPA, but it takes ridiculous threats from my parents to really get me to do any schoolwork. School is boring for the most part, I agree with Borb here, when you actually give a damn about something most people can do great on it. I don’t like the word “LAZY”, I’d prefer to say “not motivated”. There are people that no matter how hard they try they can’t do something though, in my case that problem lands on focus and self-motivation via willpower.

Euler makes a good point as well, a gigantic portion of what you learn in school will be useless on the job, school often gives you a well rounded academic profile to begin with. Later on in college you will get a lot more specific about the things you are learning, hopefully in a field you are interested in.

I am a bit curious though as to how others motivate themselves, rewards are simply ■■■■■■■■, I’m interested to hear if anyone can actually find ways to make something seem interesting to themselves? Most things in reality are, but the way schools teach traditionally makes things incredibly boring.

World War movies from Hollywood with award winning directors and writers for history classes please?

Everytime I get less than a 95 on a test, I put a hot pan on my face. Then I make myself watch Fox News. Suffice to say, I don’t get bad grades very often.

^ to answer machinedog, im pretty pathetic in that i found solace from my schoolwork during my parents divorce. i see it as a distraction, and i listen to music while doing hw, and i write in different colored pens and write in really nice handwriting so that it becomes an arts and craft project where my words are the watercolors and my logic becomes the scissors.

I just don’t consider myself smart, then feel good when it appears as if there’s activity up there after all…

Then again, there are many different types of “smarts”, so, shrugs. Who knows.

As for motivation…hums spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down, the medicine go dowwwwwn…maybe marypoppins-it; make college into a game somehow? Combine umm Shoots and Ladders with physics…Monopoly with economics…Monopoly could work with psychology too as people get depressed with current economy…
