Is it possible to accept an offer, then change?

<p>What happens if you submit a deposit for a school by May 1st - but after that date, you get accepted to a school you were waitlisted for (and that you want to go to more).</p>

<p>For example's sake, let's say you got accepted to Boston College, and you have to accept their offer by May 1st. However, the waitlist results for NYU come out afterwards (and I want to go to NYU MUCH MUCH more).</p>

<p>Can I still go to NYU, or am I stuck going to BC?</p>

<p>You can, but you will loose your deposit at the initial school.</p>

<p>That's exactly how the waitlist works. You need to accept a school that you'll go to since there are no guarantees that you'll get off the waitlist. Then once you do, you can tell your first school what happened and go to the second. But you will lose your deposit.</p>
