Is it possible to attend UPenn without being a big party person?

I really like UPenn, but I am not that big into partying. I have nothing against it, I am just that into it. Is this possible?

Sure. Come on down.

I think youll be alright.

penn is the s h i t. end of discussion.

With ~10,000 undergrads, you can find thousands who aren’t “big party people”

My son is a junior at Penn and is not a partier at all. In fact, I think depending upon your major, it can be almost impossible at times, though many do claim to be able to have both worlds. There are so many opportunities with clubs and organizations to get involved with that don’t prescribe to the party scene, it really wouldn’t be a problem at all to find lots of venues for socialization without the alcohol. The parties are there if you want them, but you’re not totally left out if you don’t attend, either. As Bagels said, it’s a big school with a wide variety of activities.

I must say that folks eat out a lot, however! Birthday bashes don’t necessarily mean vodka shots and lost memories. In fact, there’s a nice sub-culture that tries to provide alternatives, for safety reasons. I would not worry about Penn being a ‘party school’, particularly if you plan on studying Engineering.

A great number of Penn students manage to party like crazy and still get crazy high grades (including engineers).

Like everyone said, you’ll find no problem having fun without going to parties. More importantly, groups of friends are not strictly divided between those who party and those who do no (at least in my experience). I have many friends who go out almost every weekend, some who don’t go at all, and more in between.

None of my roommates are big party people. That stuff gets old after like…freshman year

Are you confusing UPenn with Penn State? I’ve never heard about U Penn being a “party school” whereas Penn State is consistently ranked as one of the top.

Either way, there’s party at all universities. With a decent sized population, it shouldn’t be an issue and you’ll find plenty of people like yourself.

no- it’s a requirement

^lolololololol

Penn is known as the social Ivy, but there are a ton of people who don’t party that often. It just depends on your scene.

From what I’ve seen, Penn is a very socially diverse place. While there’s a lot of people who party pretty hard, there are a lot of kids who really don’t go out at all. And then of course, there’s plenty of people in the middle who like to have a good time but don’t feel the need to party constantly.

Stay away from the quad and you’ll be fine. And EH5.
