Is it possible to audition twice in one year for a school?

Hi-My D wants to go to Emerson very badly. At this point we plan to fly to Boston from California on a Saturday evening (can't leave earlier as she has rehearsal until 1:00p.m.) arrivng Boston time around midnight. The auditions are on Sunday. I am really worried that as this will be her first audition, and it's her first choice school she will not be able to present her best audition. Is there ever a second chance?
She is planning to audition Early Acceptance there. My question is this- if she doesn't get in EA, can she then audition for Emerson at the unifieds in LA?

I"ve only ever heard of Point Park offering a second chance. And there's a catch or two: it has to be 3 months after the original audition, and if you don't get accepted after the second time you can never apply there again.

At least that's what I remember, you might want to call them and check to see if that is still true.

I believe Syracuse also allows/encourages reaudition.

OCU will let you

I will give Emerson a call on Monday and see if they allow it. Thanks for the feedback. This whole audition business has my stomache in knots. The kids are so busy, and to find even a day free for auditionsis hard, but when you add in the time for travel across the country, and allow for time differences, it is insane.

Yes, it is. And remember that it all happens during flu and cold season too, and the importance of the students keeping well through the entire audition season. This is no job for sissies.

Well, I come from the land of he-man governors, so we have an advantage! I don't even want to think about illness. That would be the last straw. It must happen every year to some of these kids; not being able to audition due to laryngitis. It's too scary to even think about!

Check the archives for last year around Jan - Feb (05 and 04) for a sense of what happens when kids get sick!

The process is overwhelming in the first place and very time consuming with travel when these kids have such full schedules without this going on. Add flight problems, winter travel issues, and getting sick. It is all part of this! At Emerson EA last year, my D came down with a very bad cold the night we arrived but it is what it is. It goes with this territory. One drawback to Unifieds (we did not do these btw) is that if you have flight problems, winter travel problems or get sick or even have a cold, a lot is riding on that one weekend. Something you might want to consider.

I live near LA, so Unifieds will be easy to get to. But I see your point about illness, and since Unifieds are in Feb there's not a whole lot of time after them to do more auditioning.

Here's the thing about second chances in re to auditioning. If you audition a second time you had better bring it and bring something decidedly better than your first audition! This is true for all auditions everywhere for the rest of your life. You will here this echoed in many auditioning books.....so if you truly "blew it" the first time and you really feel you have much more to put on the table the second time - then that's great at schools that will allow it. But a tepid audition the second time - even if marginally better than the first audition - would hurt you much more than letting the decision ride on your first audition. Of course this is only my opinion - but I have sat at those tables for a long time in many situations - and I think most people who here auditions would agree.
